Van Mossevelde + N are a photography duo to whom we commissioned the shooting of two campaigns for Safilo, under our art direction. The first campaign, SS2013, was set in a studio. The mood is strictly minimal, elegant and timeless. Five subjects of different gender and age were portrayed in B&W, captured through emphasising simple everyday gestures, as if the images were footages taken from a film. All the subjects appear pensive and contemplative, as if they were having a moment for themselves, reading, laughing or getting ready for an important event. The setting is as simple as possible, however through lighting techniques we recreated a warm and cosy home atmosphere.

The second campaign, FW2013, was instead shot in a very peculiar location in the heart of Milan, Villa Necchi Campiglio, a villa built between 1932 and 1935 by Piero Portaluppi in an early Rationalist style. The styling is still minimal, made of looks with simple lines and timeless apparel. The mood is still very cinematic, but rather than having a plain studio background you can see a glimpse of the villa’s interiors with its different layers of decorative interventions. The straightforward layout of both campaigns recalls the logo we redesigned for the brand.
